The Puerto Rico Integrated Solid Waste Strategy (Sustainable Materials Management) Implementation Options: Overview document produced by the PRRP in 2011 outlines a number of strategies to move sustainable materials forward in Puerto Rico. One of the core strategies is to identify a number of pilot communities where there will be focused resources and attention. The intent is to develop best practices, tools and initiatives that could be replicated in other communities across Puerto Rico. These pilot communities should be representative of the broad cross-section of the Puerto Rican community.
Currently there are two pilot communities including Guaynabo, Rincón and Vieques.
