Vieques Summer Engagement

In June and July of 2012, the PRRP Internship Vieques subgroup, led by Teresa Cardona, Rafael Fernández and Ana V. Arache , and the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras, in collaboration with the Environmental Finance Center at Syracuse University, conducted a Summer Engagement program in Vieques.  The program consisted of four groups: the Manta Summer Camp; 4H; Oasis; and outreach at churches and community groups.  The Vieques Summer Engagement program was successful in creating compost systems and food gardens at senior living facilities and churches.  Cardona, Fernández and Arache designed educational workshops and raised awareness by conducting a “building boats with plastic bottles” recycling contest.  The following photos were taken during the Vieques Summer Engagement, 2012.
